Churchwardens
Churchwardens
The churchwardens are the senior non-clergy leaders of the local church. Every church has two. We have Dennis Church and Richard Lea.
What do the churchwardens do? The wardens are the two non-clergy leaders of the church and they have legal responsibility for the management and upkeep of the church buildings, and for running the parish during a period of interregnum, the gap between one vicar leaving and a new one being appointed. More importantly, though, they are the clergy’s advisors and friends, providing support and encouragement, and, sometimes, correction, as they seek to lead the church under God.
The clergy and churchwardens join the treasurer and others in a wider leadership team which meets monthly. This group looks after two distinct areas: the day-to-day financial management of the church and buildings, and the strategic development and direction of the parish. It is answerable to the Parochial Church Council (PCC).
