
DBS Application
Thank you for your interest in leading on a team at STwSS!
Please could you complete your DBS form online (using the steps below as your guide) and then you will be all set. It is a quick process and will cover you for any future activities at St Thomas with St Stephen for 3 years. Completing a DBS online should only take a few minutes. However, please let us know if you get stuck or you need any help with it at all.
STEP 1: The DBS Application
Before completing an Enhanced DBS application form, please ensure you have also completed this Confidential Declaration Form.
Below are the instructions to help you complete your DBS application online. On point 3 of the Applicants Guide it asks you to enter your User ID. Your unique User ID number will be provided to you in due course.

1. Log on to the website www.onlinecrbcheck.co.uk
2. Go to the User ID field in the create account section
3. Enter your User ID (this will be given to you by your DBS administrator)
4. Create a password (at least 8 characters in length) and confirm your password
5. Click on the create account button and follow the instructions and complete your application. There are 2 additional questions on completing the on line form which are not asked on the paper form which are:
What is your mother’s maiden name?
What date is the issue date of your passport?
All validation is done online, meaning no mistakes. APCS's telephone number is right the way through the online system so you can call APCS directly if you have any questions
6. Arrange to take your proofs of identity to your parish safeguarding officer. All validation is done online, meaning no mistakes. APCS's telephone number is right the way through the online system so you can call APCS directly if you have any questions.
7. If there are any problems with your application APCS will either contact you direct or will contact your Safeguarding Officer.
8. The DBS will confirm receipt of the application to APCS. APCS will forward an email to you with the Form reference number.
9. You can check the progress of your application online by clicking on: secure.crbonline.gov.uk/enquiry/enquirySearch.do. Enter your DBS Applicant Form Reference number and your Date of Birth.
Please note that APCS have no control over how long the DBS take, nor how long local police forces take to process, however APCS have mechanisms in place to chase each application should local police forces have the application over 60 days. APCS will continual chase the application until it has been issued by the DBS.
10. The DBS will send a paper copy of the disclosure certificate to your home address.
11. The safeguarding officer will receive a copy of your disclosure record who will note the disclosure number and the date of issue for their records. Please note you will not be able to work with children or vulnerable adults without a satisfactory enhanced disclosure.
12. If your disclosure shows cautions, convictions etc. the APCS will send that information direct to Kate Singleton, Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser who will carry out a risk assessment and advise accordingly.

You will need THREE pieces of ID from these options:
• Passport
• Driving Licence
• Birth Certificate
• Bank statement
• Utility Bill (not mobile phone)
• Council letter
• Official Government letter etc.
Note about ID:
At least one piece of ID needs to be a recent document that is less than 3 months old and has your current address on.
At least one needs to be: a passport, a driving licence or a birth certificate.

Other information you will need:
• You will need your National Insurance Number
• If you have ever changed your name (e.g. when you get married) please bring your Marriage Certificate or relevant documentation when you get your ID verified
• A list of your addresses from the last 5 years (including postcodes)
STEP 2: Having your ID checked
Once you have completed the online application form, we can arrange a time for you to bring in the ID you used for the application - so it can be checked and signed off. You will need to bring three pieces of ID to this part of the process, including an official letter with your current address that is less than 3 months old (e.g. a bank statement, council tax bill). Please ensure you bring along any ID you have inputted into the online application form (such as your passport and/or driving licence).
It normally only takes 5 minutes or less to have your ID checked, please arrange a time with the person administrating your DBS asap.

Registering on the DBS Update Service for Free
When you receive your new DBS certificate you can then register for free on the DBS Update Service within 19 days of receiving your new DBS. Once registered you can use your DBS in the future at other places and then again with us in three years time. The Update Service is free of charge for volunteers.
